Good question. Let me use this as an opportunity to do a brief survey of downtown Columbus hotels, or those nearby. My preferred chains are Hilton (Diamond) and Marriott (Silver but probably Gold by EOY).
Westin Great Southern. Not a bad little hotel. Typically pretty cheap. On the wrong end of downtown. Not my preferred chain.
Doubletree on Front Street. Was going to stay there this week but decided to change because of parking. Last time I stayed there (two years ago) it was dirty and badly worn. Typically a little more expensive than average.
Courtyard on Spring Street. An absolute armpit.
Two Hyatts, one at Capitol Square, the other at the Convention Center. Don't know anything about these; not my preferred chain.
Crowne Plaza. Not a bad little hotel but not my preferred chain.
The Lofts Hotel. Nice little boutique hotel.
Hampton Inn on High Street. Newer hotel. Not bad for what it is. Good location. Cheap. Good treatment for Diamond.
Outside downtown but within 15-20 mins:
Courtyard Easton. Newer, standard CY. Rate reasonable. In Easton which is an outside upscale mall.
Hilton Columbus. Same Easton area. Nice hotel. Nearly always sold out. Treat Diamond OK but not great. Friendly staff.
Marriott Airport. Nice hotel. Fairly convenient location; 12 mins to downtown.
CY Airport. Nothing remarkable. Sometimes more expensive than the Marriott.
