Important Reminder about the BA AMEX Companion Ticket

What's all this about?

Dear MR SMIRNOFF,

Don’t forget – 1st October sees the arrival of a change to your Companion Ticket benefit.

We’d like to remind you that from 1st October 2006, the conditions of your British Airways American Express annual Companion Ticket benefit will change.

What is the change?
From your next Card anniversary date after 1st October 2006, to qualify for your Companion Ticket, you will need to spend £10,000 on your British Airways American Express Premium Plus Card within twelve months.

When is my Card anniversary date?
Your Card anniversary date is the date on which you were first approved for your British Airways American Express Premium Plus Card. For example, if you were approved on 15th July, your Card anniversary date will be the 15th July every year and this change will come into effect for you on 15th July 2007.

When will this change happen?
The change will come into effect from your next Card anniversary date after 1st October 2006. From that date, all spend on your Card within the next 12 months will count towards your annual Companion Ticket. Please note that all spend prior to that Card anniversary date will not be included.

How long will I have to save for my Companion Ticket?
As this is an annual benefit, you will have 12 months (up until your Card anniversary date) to spend £10,000 on your Card and qualify for your Companion Ticket.

What happens in the meantime?
You have until your next Card anniversary date after 1st October 2006, to save for your current Companion Ticket. If you have not spent £10,000 on your Card by this date, you will not be issued with a Companion voucher. If you have spent £10,000 on your Card, you will be issued with a Companion voucher, which you can use to take a companion away with you when you redeem your BA Miles for a reward flight.

How will this affect my BA Miles?
Your balance of BA Miles with British Airways will not be affected. Your BA Miles will still accumulate, so you’ll still earn 1.5 BA Miles for virtually every £1 you spend with your British Airways American Express Premium Plus Card. To check your current BA Miles balance, log on to ba.com/execclub

How can I earn BA Miles faster?
Here are a few ways to earn BA Miles, and your annual Companion Ticket, faster:

Use your Card for all your everyday purchases, such as petrol, groceries and eating out, and you’ll soon see your BA Miles add up.
Use your Card whenever you buy British Airways flights and earn double BA Miles.
Give your partner, family members or close friends an Additional Card and you’ll earn BA Miles every time they use their Card. To apply for your free Additional Cards, click here or call 0808 100 0065.
