LGB is a great airport! It's fast and small. I use it every chance I get. I'll bet you enjoy it. I often arrive 30 min before departure and do just fine. Of course, YMMV...

edited to add: that's 30 minutes prior ONLY if I'm not checking any luggage...

Also IIRC, HP ground handles AS at LGB and does a nice job...
