Nonstop vs Direct Flight Expert Advice needed

Having a baby changed my travel habits. Rather than making as many stops as possible to maximize miles I now prefer nonstop flights when traveling with the little one.

I needed 4 non stop flights for 4 traveles traveling on different dates and called a travel agent (1800cheapseats).

So rather than booking cheaper connecting flights I paid a $ 1000 + premium to book 4 what I thought to be nonstop flights.

They sold me Non Stop flights over the phone, but after calling United for an upgrade request it turns out that these are NOT non stop and a layover and plane change is required in ORD.

This is the information they provided to me. Doesn't it look like a nonstop flight????

United Airlines Flight# 941
Thursday, March 29, 2007 [12:45:00 PM - 7:15:00 PM] FRANKFURT (FRA) - LOS ANGELES (LAX)

How can they get do that?????

After talking to them for an hour they suggested that tomorrow I can call to put in a request for cancelation and pay a $ 35 fee each ticket.

Now if that request for cancelation is not approved what are my options?
