hmm, strangely, when I was there a few years ago, I had a much better time in Barcelona than Madrid. but I was less focused on the gay nightlife (had a lovely time in both)... and more on the greater city. Barcelona REALLY made a big impression on me- I love big cities and it's right up there for interesting stuff to do and see.
