And of course many people are familiar w/ all kinds of details about the various planes and their configurations, and use the appropriate shorthand there.

The letters I'm confused about, and about which I can find no explanation on UA's site, are ticket class letters. From my perspective, most planes have 2-4 classes of service, some combination of: economy, economy plus, business, and first or first w/ the little pods. So what's with people referring to tickets of various classes with all different letters of the alphabet? My guess is that each of the 4 tangible sections I mentioned above actually have a range of sub-classes of ticket, designated by a letter, which are differentiated by additional features or restrictions... is this right? What's the full list of these letters and what are their different features or restrictions?

Thanks for the help!
