Thumbs down Virgin, Korean Air and Quantas ban Dell laptops

Virgin Atlantic has banned the use of battery-powered Apple or Dell laptop computers on international flights after recalls over fears they could overheat and catch fire.

I'm sorry but this is just stupid. Given the airlines until the relatively near past used to allow SMOKING on airlines without undue concern, the likelihood that this will cause an airplane to burst into flames is ludicrously small.

Not that I have a laptop, but Dells are common. It's like saying: Attention business travellers!! Don't fly with us!!

I don't recall any of the overheating batteries burning down anyone's house. Aren't airplane seats, carpets etc. made of fire resistant fabrics?
