I used to go in the day of until I got delayed because of weather for ~ 3 hrs. It put me at my client site too late for the meeting.

While we did begin it with me on the ground before I left and continued with me in the cab when I landed, it is not the same thing. If it is critical, I go in the night before.

If it is not critical but it is a great city to visit, I go in the night before.
