Bogus hotel charges on yr credit card
How often do you find bogus TV or mini-bar charges on your credit card statements?
On my last trip I visited 4 cities, and in checking my on-line AMEX statement, I see that 1 of the 4 hotels added illegitimate mini-bar charges: $4.26 at the Beverly Hilton (after I called them about it, they said they would remove the charge). I'm finding that that's about the average rate: in 1/4 stays, a charge is added later.
As a matter of policy, I NEVER take anything from the minibar, and am rarely in the room when I'm not sleeping, so never order anything from TV (which isn't enough to prevent them from adding it to the bill, but that's something you can catch easily on your check out, and make them take it off right there in front of you).
I do sometimes store small bottles of water in the mini-bar, but I'm very careful not to move or remove anything.
Am I the only one plagued by this?
