Hmm...I think that depends on whether it's a non-stop/direct flight or requires a connection.
Example:
I tried pricing a JFK-LGW RT and then a LGW-JFK RT......and both showed prices as the legs were chosen. Same for ATL-LGW and LGW-ATL
When I priced BOS-LGW, it displayed the prices with each leg.
However, I ran into the same problem as you when pricing a LGW-BOS RT.
Even though I was "searching by price", it acted as if I was searching by schedule.
I guess Delta still has some bugs to work out.

Edit: It always priced in USD....regardless of whether I was pricing ex-JFK or ex-LGW.
