Flight distance is 1,062 miles, on an MD80. Not the most attractive place in the world to spend three e-500's. I think he's just hoping for a better seat in coach - aisle or window towards the front.
I'd recheck at the 100-hour mark for sure: EXP's will get their upgrades and some good seats might open up.
