As an EXP they have to accomodate you on the plane, so one option is to let the entire plane fill up and then show up at the airport a few hours early. There are almost alway one or two rev seats on that flight (I do it regularly) so they might put you in one of those.

Alternatively you might get offered a paid bump and a transfer to Airtran, which is actually a decent flight through ATL.
