How about those of us who end up having their passports slightly bent from carrying it on our person for long enough stretches? How much bending can the chip take before rendering it useless?
I've read that with some RFID chips some amount of damage might sever the link to the antenna, which, while not rendering the chip useless, would prevent it from being read at any distance more than a centimeter or two.
