It's not the only good thing! Think of IFE and luggage allowance!
And yes, your flights booked previously are eligible for E+ seating according
to UA.

Taking the boat definitely is cheaper than Virgin's PE .
E+ access might be far cheaper for you than any of those solutions.
And finally, there is the beloved CouponConnection where you get you the
3P or 2P level on UA for a reasonable trade amount.
There are two C only LCCs from LHR to NYC/IAD but how long they will be there
and how well people take the luggage harrassment through the UK are very
different aspects.
