I know most of you guys don't fly much Y, but for those who do I thought I post my most recent FRA-IAD(LH-744) vs ORD-FRA(UA-777) experience in Y as I found quite a few differences that may be worthwhile to consider for others. I will not elaborate on 'mile issues' and 'non inflight aspects' just the inflight service experience. Please note that the UA leg was in regular Y - not ecoplus (which btw was offered to me for 99 bucks).

- IFE: As commonly known: LH is behind with their non in seat system. UA's movies are way more popular ones. I liked the Deutsche Welle option at UA and they also showed the LH-Inflight Airshow. UA had to reset its IFE about halfway into the first movie :-(

- Seating: I know this is commonly known and exact sizing is availalble, but the UA seat was considerably larger I thought - width, pitch may be and the headrest more comfy and larger also. It seems that the UA seat is just about 5 to 8 % abvove LH as far as size (which did allow me just some better sleeping). I am hoping LH will adjust with new A380 LH Y product.

- Hot towel service: Same

- Food: No doubt LH much nicer silver/ plates and food also more thoughtful. UA services entire soda cans :-) but charges extra for alcohol drinks (5 bucks) while LH is free and only serves cups. The second meal is a joke both with LH and UA. Not tasting hard and cold pizza at LH and at UA for breakfast a too hot bacon egg croissant where the cheese melted all over :-( I liked the Starbucks Coffee served on UA though

- Cabin Crew: LH - business as usual. UA: Surprisingly atttendive and fun crew (not the typical US carrier old seniority crowd): Bunch of young German based attendants (UA has 300 FRA based FAs - I learnt on this flight)

- Cleanynes: LH is definately on top of this subject. All of rear cabin at UA had a nasty smell from the lavs until crew put coffee bags in the lavs, which made the odor go away :-)
