Flights in and out of the UK may be a different matter. However, this article implied that the ban applied to flight crew no matter where they travel.
That's what I found interesting, the bit about liquids w/r/t LHR. For example, reported experiences FRA --> U.S. are mixed about the 4 oz. liquid limit. Isn't in possible LON screening is muddled as well?
