If an American drives to Canada and wins $13500 playing slots, does he have to pay Canadian taxes? Will the Canadian casino withhold the taxes? If so, will guy be taxed again by the US IRS on April 15? Is there some sort agreement between the two countries that prevents someone from being taxed twice on the same income?
I do know that at US casinos(Vegas, anyway), they don't withhold taxes on slot winnings. I hit three double-bars and $3500 several years ago playing slots. The casino gave me a W-2G(?) form, which I submitted at tax time.(and also reported a gambling loss of $900 at the same time)
Thanks !
