If you look at The Great KLM and Aircraft Seating FAQ, you'll see that coach starts at row 10, that row 7 is indeed in business, and that 7EFH are the worst WBC seats, designated as "last saleable seats" because they are in a bad location, either next to the galley or lavs. This probably means your friends got the last seats that were available on that flight.
