OK, so I thought I understood that it wasn't possible to upgrade someone else with comp 500 milers unless you were flying together. At least that's what I've been told in the past by CSRs at UA. But last week on a whim I decided to experiment and from the upgrade page on UA.com clicked the "can't find itin to upgrade" button, entered my wife's confirm code and selected 500 mile electronic certificates. Lo and behold, my wife got her upgrade.

Then, after she called me and sang my praises, I thought a bit and figured that maybe she had poped over the top on status with our last trip to SIN and had earned some of her own and those were used. Well, to shorten the story, that wasn't the case. When I checked my available upgrades, I saw that some had been pulled for her trip.

To add to the complexity, if UA is now allowing spousal sharing, we have different last names. Have I just been mistaken all alongabout using 500s to upgrade other people?
