I left EZE last night, and although I checked a bag, I wasn't asked about whether I had wine in my checked baggage - which is usually a standard question there, along with several others that are never asked at any other UA station anywhere else in the world ...

Secondary screening at the gate has also been reintroduced, but it was not nearly as instrusive as the post 9/11 fiasco (where the EZE screeners acquired a pair of my Sony noise-reduction earphones ).

The gate screeners seem like they were just going through the motions, but they were pleasant and courteous.

Just remember that although Alex has syrofoam wine shippers available at his store, you might not be able to find them at other wine merchants. Bubble wrap is available at some ferreterías, but I would probably only use that for a small number of bottles. ¿Cómo se dice "bubble wrap" en castellano?

Even if you buy at duty free, remember to purchase something to carry them home from the airport once you get to the US.
