I personally think $300 is a good deal for access, but if instead do go down the route of re-igniting my MP account, what I will find tough is sitting in the back if I have to take UA flights on the way up to my 25k.
I agree entirely and as soon as I heard the news I was asking where I paid my $300 - which is when I saw the MP membership requirement. I, too, am an MP member but with no status and you need to book using your MP number to use the benefits of your paid E+ access which means no mileage accumulation on AC unless UA confirm that I could then call and switch my booking to reflect my AC SE number but keep the E+ seat assignment that I got through my paid E+ access.
Of course, when you call the customer service number, the person on the other end does not even seem to recognize what you mean by Star Alliance and an e-mail to customer service only got me a form letter which did not respond to my queries on the above lines. A letter to Glenn Tilton is my next step.
