I don't think it's just LHR that has this problem.

I came back from FRA recently. As many of you know there is the main security screening and then a secondary one for the BA gates.

I had in my handluggage some specialised equipment and (inadvertantly) two screwdrivers. I went through the first screening fine. They took the equipment and swabbed it for explosives. No mention of the screwdrivers.

I walked the 300 yards to the 2nd screening point. Same thing, swabbed the equipment, and only as I was putting it away noticed the screwdrivers and took them.

It is pretty obvious that they couldn't have been paying full attention on the screening machine otherwise they'd have seen two large metal objects ! (I completely forgot until I was repacking my bag also ).
