We're looking for a place to laze on the beach for a few days over New Year's on our way from SIN to BKK. It should be easily accessible from both places, and have nice enough weather (which probably means East Coast is out).
Phuket seems to be the obvious (only ?) answer, but we're looking for a place that would not be too overcrowded / overpriced, and possibly a bit off the beaten path.
Our budget is around $50-100 / night. We're not looking for high-end luxury, although a proper bathroom is a must for the Miss.
Any ideas / suggestions ?

You might try
NaiThon Beach. A bit out of the way - though much closer to the airport. Beautiful beach - much less crowded than the main tourist areas. But - still enough little restaurants and small bars to keep you fed and watered.
The
NaiThonBuri Resort is in your price range - and is only inexpensive as it quite new and not yet well known.
