Would be nice though. LH has pretty big screens in business. And pictures I've seen of CX and the likes have what looks like proper LCD/plasma screens. That would be pretty cool... as was elsewhere in the thread, sometimes the screens are so dark it becomes difficult to see anything.
I think (and I'm going back a long way in my memory here) that the reason the screens in WT have always had touchcreen capability is that Rockwell Collins saw a need for this in the future. That way the existing screens (& handsets) could be kept even if the back end hardware was replaced, and something like AVOD was introduced which would use touchscreens.
This was of course therefore likely to be cheaper for the airline, and it is either fortuitous or more likely by design, that the NGCW is being introduced at the same time, and thus allowing a (hopefully) larger screen, to be incorporated into the seat design.
