I cant imagine staying there - but I guess that is because I live 4 blocks away. Anyway - the place is not something I would recommend for $150 - but for $0 - go for it.

Make sure to stop by Martunis for a martini (or other fun 'martini-like' drink). It is a gay piano bar - but I see plenty of straight couples in there when I am there. Very straight friendly, campy, non-meat market kind of bar. Martunis is at Market and Valencia.

Also make sure to go into Yum - across Market street. They have tons of sodas by the bottle that you just cant find anywhere else and lots of other 'boutique / hard to find' foods. It is a neat store to spend 10 minutes in.

For the artistic crowd - make a stop in Flax (right next door). Great photo albums, ribbons, paper. I am not artistic at all and I can easily spend an hour just walking the aisles there.

For lunch - if you have some time (and an expense account) - stop by Zuni cafe - 2 blocks down market (towards downtown). Excellent oysters and the burger at lunch is awesome!!!! Other than NZ lamb - it was the first red meat I had after being a veggie for 4 years. I didnt realize how much I missed their burger.

Sorry to stray off topic - but with so many people staying there, I thought I would point out some neat places that are nearby.
