Here's another condundrum for the AMS experts (ik spreek een beetje Nederlands, but that's about it ):

What is the correct pronunciation of the diphthongs ei/ij?

I've heard the Amsterdam tram drivers pronounce 'Leidseplein' at least three different ways. Some pronounce the 'ei' like 'a' in English 'plane'; some pronounce it like the 'i' in English 'Time'; still others pronounce 'Leidseplein' as if it were spelled 'Laadseplaan'. Which is correct?
