I assume this means splitting the original booking into 2, and MFUing one booking and leaving the other as it is? Will BA do this, if you are all in a non-changeable (except for a fee) booking class? Or will they try and charge the change fee? Or will they refuse on the basis that there are insufficient reward seats for all passengers?
Yes; can do this at the time of booking and subsequently, and have done it.
At time of booking: ex-DUB to North America with a party of four. Award availability in CW for all four on the LHR to N Am legs and back. But only award availability in CE for two pax on both DUB legs. No probs at all, and done as two bookings.
Subsequently: booked WT+ ex-LHR to N Am for two. No award availability in CW at the time, but then one seat opened up on one leg - bagged that. Had to split the booking, and pay the difference between the WT+ fare at the time of purchase and the WT+ fare at the time of the change (plus changes in taxes & so on). Then a second CW award seat popped up on the same leg, and was able to u/g the second pax, again with the same costs.
