Are you booked under a BA code share ? I travelled back from MEL via Hong Kong and was able to choose my seat through MMB. But I was travelling on the BA flight number and not the QF number ??
The usual seats were not available until check-in (i.e. upper deck exits) but everything else was, I bagged 11A which was okay..the seats even give you and in-flight wedgie...
