We just did this trip (except for PS - the JW DS is under construction right now btw)) in April. Stayed a week at Bellagio in a suite - loved it and priced right - then drove to the Grand Canyon for a night (longer drive than expected) only to find out we were supposed to check in the Bright Angel the night before and they didn't have a room that night. We had seen the Grand Canyon 5 years before and didn't think it had changed that much so left for Williams...didn't like the look of the Marriotts there so stayed at a Holiday Inn and had a great steak dinner there - but a real come down from the Bellagio, as I'm sure Bright Angel would have been too. Flagstaff was further east than I wanted to go.

We left Williams the next morning and drove the Oak Creek Canyon Rd to Sedona (don't miss this drive). stayed one night in the Enchantment. Wow...wish I had several nights for this place - one was not enough.

Then we drove to Phoenix to stay at the JW Desert Ridge for 2 nights - $450 a night, plus $150 for the Cloud Club which we liked as the room was really small - I mean really small. The hotel - first class and huge - the largest hotel in AZ I was told. 7 restaurants...4 pools including a Lazy River, great fun for kids even if they can't go in the Cloud Club.

After that we had a 1 bdrm suite across from the Desert Ridge for a week at their timeshare Canyon Villas - which also gives you access to the JW facilities. Great space for families... nice pool area - limited room service (from the hotel), free parking, local phone and WIFI which was nice.

Camelback used to be Cat7 with Marriott but I understand it has fallen out of favor and is now Cat6 - but I've heard it should even be that high any more.

Final assessment...of all the hotels, I preferred the Bellagio and have booked it again for November! The Enchantment was great but I don't think I'd want to watch a bunch of red rocks for a week. The JW rooms were far too small even though I liked the hotel very much and the Cloud Club. Canyon Villas had great space but not the quality of furnishings of the hotel. Oh...and don't forget the Holiday Inn steak in Williams which was the best steak on the whole trip!

With the JW Desert Springs & Spa under construction redo you might consider the Ren. Looks great.
