Which one entails a 12h layover? Where? Did you mean OZ, not KE?
With KE you can be guaranteed flat seat on KE 17/18 ICN-LAX (but not sure about how to get you from HKT to ICN) and I have taken KE12 and it too had the new seats in C.
Advantage of KE is that it has more flights to the US west coast than OZ and thus might be easier for you to minimize stopover time. Also, as was mentioned, they are opening or have opened a direct ICN-LAS, but I am not sure what kind of seats you would get on that one.
Avoid KE 1/2 from NRT to LAX. Guaranteed backbreaking old seat.
