Make sure the res folks linked your records and that your status shows up on her record. Even better if you're using your miles.

I've had mixed success getting them to release seats to take Mrs. Global_Hi_Flyer transatlantic when I was on a paid fare. It reached the point where I would either hold off the booking (or rearrange the itinerary) so we could travel together... in one case I cancelled and went on UA instead.

If you were on a code-share, they could/would look for inventory on the other carrier. We did that with success a couple of times.
