I agree there is nothing wrong with trying moral suasion and asking the company to do something.
It seams to me there are MANY examples where unions don't exhibit a soft spot for junior staff - Examples include:
- A collective bargaining agreement that specifies layoffs based on seniority
- Two-tiered wage contracts accepted by many unions where new highers are paid at a fare lower wage scale
- Grandfathered pension benefits for existing workers that are not made available to new hires.
Agreed that these (point 2 and 3) are typically put in place at MANAGEMENT's request, but the union agrees to it to protect the existing/senior members of the work force.
