All Canadian businesses don't let employees travel abroad in business class!

My brother-in-law works for Hewlitt Packard in Toronto - he was sent, in a consulting capacity, to Australia and then Singapore (for a total of 2 weeks, between these 2 locations). He was sent in the economy cabin.

I am sure that HP, like most other businesses, does have formal regulations in this situation, where business class travel is allowed (or even mandated?).

As a physician, when I travel to attend an industry-sponsored meeting, I will get a business class ticket for travel overseas (usually Europe), but not for Canadian or US continental travel, nor for Caribbean travel.
