The 767 WBC cabin is inferior to the MD 11 or 747, but I don`t think it is crap. But I have to admit that my defination of crap is a little bit different....
The seat is not as wide, but that should not be a problem, same with the 55 inch pitch.Certainly not as comfortable compared with the MD 11 or the 747, but not really bad, if you are not that big...

Speaking of personal experience, I was a regular on the 767 AMS-ATL-AMS service years ago ( axed after Sep.11 )in both Y and C.Back in those days they had the old WBC seat and a 48 inch pitch and later on MP crew and catering...
Solide service and seat , but not worth to burn 20000 FD points...

My current WBC ranking would be:
747 Upper Deck
MD 11 rows 1 and 2
747 lower deck
MD 11 rows 5-7
B 767

but I would not hesitate to fly a 767 upfront, I am actually booked on the YVR flight in a few weeks, which is served by a 767.My last flight on the 767 was in December, back from MEM and it was solid in C.

If you like to save the miles, the 767 has a lot of good seats in Y ( bulkhead row 14 is good, same with 22 center seats. Exit row is 29 ), but I doubt that a sufficient number of those seats is still available two weeks out.

If you cancel your upgrades, KLM should not charge a fee, IMO.They changed the equipment after all and you have a good argument.

On the other hand the AMS-MEM flight is looong, normally between 9.5 and 10 hours, so make sure to think about the cancellation twice...

As posted earlier, I expect the AMS- NW HUB flights to be packed in the next weeks.
