Sorry for the confusion. Just called ticket agent to change my seat for UA 838 that had been changed a few times between a 747 and a 777. As of 9/10, the ticket agent confirmed that UA 837 is a 747 and UA 853 is a 777. I guess you may want to do a dummy booking or simply call UA to confirm up till the day before your travel date.
