Hi , i live and work in KL.
In general hotels are cheap in KL incl. 5*.
In the golden triangle good value on 5 * level is the "Renaissance" (MYR 250++ rate= 75 USD p night)-the Shangi LA is higher priced-
Also can try the Concorde 4*(MYR 150 upwards) but ok - next to Hard Rock cafe.Both are nearly opposite the Shangri LA.I would recommend the Concorde- clean room, good service and good value for money)
But I like both-the Renaissance if you like at big outside pool for sunbathing .
You can also stay conviniontly in the new "Hilton KL".
Its placed at the Central station-direct connection by train to/from the airport- more expensive than the former ones but very luxary .Taxis are cheap in KL-if they dont cheat you or trying to-
