I prefer going south of Redondo Pier proper and into the area that is technically considered Torrance Beach. The Riviera area is interesting because you can grab a coffee, go to Trader Joe's, or any of the other fine stores there.

I've never found the beach really crowded, but the population does increase in number during weekends and holidays.

No fire rings, but I've watched the sunset from there and it's nice.
