Some models are CLEARLY not effected by the recall - for example 17" powerbooks. I think the difference between a 17" and smaller model is SO clear that this blanket policy is just pathetic.
Pathetic but not unexpected.

TSA issued a blanket ban on all liquids, the vast majority of which (water) are no threat whatsoever. The airlines may think passengers are tolerating those restrictions. And now they can use the same idea to issue their own blanket bans on a class of objects which are mostly harmless. As with most such policies, the impact is poorly thought out.

The irony of this idiotic policy is that they are essentially asking people to put the batteries in checked baggage which is arguably much less safe. Should the batteries self ignite in the baggage hold (which is possible given the nature of the internal short circuits that are causing the reported fires), the captain will have to rely on automated fire detection to detect it and extinguishers to suppress it. In contrast, if a battery ignited in the cabin, it could be quickly put out with a hand-held extinguisher. I'd rather have pax notice the smoke and an FA put out the fire than rely on the machines in the baggage hold.
