Get used to driving if you insist on staying at a Hilton. Most of the top ski towns which feature walk-to-lift from your hotel, e.g. Aspen, Vail, Telluride, Park City do not have ES.
As for South Lake Tahoe, the town is a dump compared with N. Lake Tahoe and the ES is way overpriced compared with the alternatives. If you want to stick with Hilton, I would instead recommend the new Hampton Inn near Truckee, which is a 5 min drive from the wonderful family ski area at Northstar, and perhaps 20 min from world class skiing at Squaw Valley or Alpine Meadows. Also far more convenient to I-80 if you are flying into Reno or Sacto. You can probably afford 2 rooms at the Hampton compared with what they charge at the ES.
