NZ seem very protective of this lounge. Your experience isn't unique. My own unpleasant experience (as an AC SuperElite and *G) was to have to argue to get in even after arriving on an ANZ flight in Business connecting to an AC flight. I'm not sure what you can do on other occasions other than to ask to be put in touch with a supervisor and show them the website information. I would take this up with NZ.
