I have been told that just a couple of weeks ago that I need to pay 20000 miles for AMS-DTW and another 10000 miles for DTW-PHX, cause the transatlantic portion is on KL metal.....
Is that wrong ??

Was that by the FD Helpdesk? There really is no difference in regards to miles if you fly KL or NW or CO. Try to get the person's name and if you feel the answer is wrong ask for verification with a sup. All FD Helpdesk workers should give you the same answer.

And CUN is a different zone so that will be a bit more than 20,000 miles.
