From the first of the year until 28 February 2002, at the latest, you will pay in the country's currency and receive the change in Euro's (The Euro symbol does not appear on the board!!).

After that, you can exchange your currency at any domestic bank, at no charge, and after a further transition period, you will still be able to trade the old money for new, but only with the national bank in each country or its agents.

Your money will still have value, but if you are concerned, you can always do a "Euro run" to come and change your money next year!!!

By the way, more than just the "Eurozone" will be using the Euro - many eastern European countries have used the D-Mark as their currency and will now have to switch along with the Germans, and smaller states, such as Andora and the Vatican will also use the new currency.
