Without disclosing any details here, a US Airways captain showed me a way to play the system to ensure that even crew rate stays get full stay credits. So yes, it is possible. Crew rates are however specifically excluded from HHonors accruals (officially).
I would love to get comps when I stay (then again, who wouldn't!) But to be honest I find that when I check in with my airline badge, I really only get more polite service, they seem to be friendlier; not really much more than that., Maybe it could be cause when I book my stays I tend to use priceline to get as cheap rates as possible?
