If you can get in to the Qantas Club when not departing on QF/OW then the choice is yours. But you'll have to travel to the other side one way or another to get your BP - either check-in, or if you come in to Intl on QF then to the transfer desk, or the RCC.

I wonder though, with this change whether they will have UA staff on the transfer desk in the QF part of the Intl. terminal, rather than having to walk all the way around and then back again?

You would think (hah! hah!) that UA would have something on their website about this.
