Yes I know this is a lot of luggage, but we're skiing, going on a cruise, seeing friends in LA and then driving up Highway 1 finishing in SF. From what you've all said, it sounds as if it might be cheaper to keep the car, therefore saving on the taxi fares, and pay out the valet parking costs.
There is a large parking lot on Mission Street between 4th and 5th. Your hotel is at 3rd and Mission.
It's $23 to park in this lot for up to 24 hours. However, as it is a "public" lot, it is debatable whether you want to leave your belongings in your car. It's a rather large lot that I've not personally had any problems with in the past.
Of course, who is to say that the St. Regis lot provides any better security or that the St. Regis will take any sort of responsibility for damage or theft.

There is also parking for roughly the same price at the Moscone Convention Center.
You could pull up to the St. Regis, unload, and park elsewhere. Not that hard.
If you're pinching pennies, then park at one of these two lots. Given that you're staying at the St. Regis, this would not appear to be the case ...
