The other half took about 20-25 mins by just joining a queue.

Issue with LGW last Friday causing 2 hour delays were the lack of staff to load and unload the bags on the planes.

The issue here is BAA appear to have lost control of their operations given the rules that they impose over and over the CAA requirement (e.g. bag size). And BAA appear to be accountable to no one for the excessive rules. It is no wonder the various airlines are asking for BAA to be broken up. They are bring this on themselves!
We shuffled through the other day and I counted - not one - not two- not three - but FOUR machines that were standing idle. Now we have to take off our shoes, our belts and put our dear little hand baggage allowance on the blet (which fool (aka "security expert") decided that a bigger bag was more dangerous then a small one). Now I am all for security - but we are paying for it. I am not even going to list the competencies of the BAA as it would take a nano second, but I am a customer and I am paying to be there. I think that it is about time that we got some value for our money and that we should have a security system that is answerable to the customers for this sort of nonsense. I am told that they are training people to man them. So why did they get a load of machines that no one knows how to work? I know that our Darling Jenbel will tick me off for some of this - but for heavens sake what is the purpose of the airport? How you all tolerate this degrading system amazes me - I suppose that we just accept that is how it is.
