I use a soft bag

Sorry for you loss. I would be crushed if my driver is broken.
I use a soft bag by Ogio. It had travelled and survived at leat some 40 flight segments. I cushioned all clubs before inserting them into the golf bag. After loading the entire set plus golf bag into the Ogio, I further cushioned with newspaper until the entire Ogio bag is full. Then tied at two ends so that nothing is shifting. After all that, I tied 2 tags that said "fragile, please handle with care". I know, it is a lot of work. Fortunately, all my clubs survived so far.

I think a hard case would break too. It all depends on how the bag was handled.
