That's a fairly common misconception. People think that whenever a flight is full, the airline automatically bumps off all the award tickets.

But it's not true. An award ticket is every bit as confirmed as a paid ticket.

Regarding the OP question, I would have showed my BP to the FA and asked if the seat number on the BP is the same as the seat number I'm in. As long as the BP matches the seat number, I ain't movin'.
