With all the various fail-safe devices and redundancies required for the aircraft, it's a sad shock that there are no such controls on airport operations. If there is a runway that has limitations it should have a clear indication to any pilot. You obviosuly can't tell the length of the runway from the start of it. Even a specific indicator of short runway length by a specific sign could save lives. It shouldn't depend on a controller getting lucky or a pilot remembering 22 vs 26.
