In general I think that SAT would be ripe for the 'correct' point to point routes. The ones chosen were not the right choices...probably chosen more for reasons other than 'right' market. LAX and SFO non-stop flights from SAT make good sense...and as they're still around, they must be making money or rather close to it. SAT is growing rapidly and the only real choices right now are SWA, CO and AA....and with CO and AA you're pretty much a slave to connect to their nearby hubs.
